Multiregional Partnership Marks New Chapter in Disability Sports
China's 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and ninth National Special Olympic Games concluded on December 15, 2025, marking a milestone as the first edition jointly organized by Guangdong Province, Hong Kong SAR, and Macao SAR. The eight-day event brought together 7,824 athletes from 34 delegations across the Chinese mainland, competing in 46 sports disciplines.
Record-Breaking Achievements Highlight Resilience
Participants shattered 15 world records and 156 national records during the competitions held from December 8-15. Macao SAR's Coordination Office head Pun Weng Kun noted: "These 279 medals symbolize both athletic excellence and our shared commitment to an inclusive society."
New Standards for Regional Cooperation
The tri-regional hosting model demonstrated enhanced coordination within the Greater Bay Area development initiative. Organizers reported seamless cross-border logistics and volunteer participation across administrative boundaries.
Looking Ahead to 2029
Hunan Province has been announced as host for the 13th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and 10th National Special Olympic Games, continuing China's quadrennial tradition of promoting para-sports development.
