China and Singapore Strengthen BRI, Innovation Ties in 2025

China and Singapore have pledged to deepen cooperation on Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) projects and technological innovation during high-level meetings held in Chongqing this week. The agreements signal strengthened economic alignment between the two nations as they work to enhance regional stability through multilateral trade frameworks.

Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang and Singaporean Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong co-chaired four bilateral meetings on December 16, 2025, focusing on upgrading flagship industrial parks in Suzhou and Tianjin while expanding digital connectivity through the Chongqing-based demonstration initiative. Both sides emphasized developing "new quality productive forces" through green technology partnerships and smart infrastructure projects.

"Our cooperation blueprint aligns with Asia's transformation into a global innovation hub," said Ding during the meetings, highlighting 32 years of sustained collaboration since diplomatic relations were established. Singapore's Gan reaffirmed commitment to the one-China policy, stating: "We oppose any form of Taiwan independence separatist activities."

The nations launched new international rail routes connecting Chongqing to Central Asia and Southeast Asia through the China-Singapore Multi-Modal Demonstration Project. Analysts predict this logistics network will reduce regional supply chain costs by up to 18% when fully operational in 2026.

With bilateral trade reaching $189 billion USD in 2025, both countries agreed to establish a joint working group for financial technology standards and deepen collaboration in vaccine research under the ASEAN-China Public Health Initiative framework.
