Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi announced on Sunday that China will deepen strategic coordination with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to address global challenges and advance shared development goals. The pledge came during Wang’s meeting with GCC Secretary General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi in Beijing, underscoring Beijing’s commitment to bolstering ties with Middle Eastern partners.
Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, highlighted the GCC’s growing influence as a unifying force for Gulf nations. “China and the GCC have walked hand in hand through decades of reform and opening up,” he stated, emphasizing their alignment in pursuing development and revitalization.
The two sides discussed enhancing cooperation in energy, infrastructure, and technology while reaffirming their intent to safeguard multilateralism. Wang noted that strengthened China-GCC collaboration would contribute to the Global South’s collective resilience amid what he described as a ‘turbulent international landscape.’ Analysts view the talks as timely, given ongoing geopolitical realignments and economic uncertainties in 2025.
