Heilongjiang Province's capital has unveiled its latest winter marvel as the 15-meter-tall 'Fairytale Snowman Family' becomes the centerpiece of the 27th Harbin Ice-Snow World. Crafted from nearly 4,000 cubic meters of snow, the whimsical installation represents one of Northeast China's most ambitious cold-weather art projects this year.
Local tourism authorities report record December visitor numbers, with photography enthusiasts and families alike braving sub-zero temperatures to capture the snow sculpture's intricate details. "This creation symbolizes both our winter heritage and technological innovation in ice-snow architecture," stated Harbin Cultural Bureau Director Wang Lijun during the opening ceremony.
The installation forms part of China's broader strategy to boost cold-region tourism, with Heilongjiang seeing a 22% year-on-year increase in winter visitors since 2023. Recent infrastructure upgrades, including expanded high-speed rail connections from Beijing and Shanghai, have made the province more accessible to both domestic and international travelers.
As night falls, the snow sculpture transforms through LED-embedded illumination systems, creating what Australian tourist Emily Carter described as "a living storybook scene." The Ice-Snow World complex remains open through February 2026, featuring over 100 frozen installations across its 600,000-square-meter exhibition space.
