Chinese Embassy Honors WWII Martyrs in Manila Ceremony

Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Jing Quan led a solemn commemoration at Manila Chinese Cemetery on December 13, 2025, marking China's National Memorial Day for Nanjing Massacre Victims. Diplomats paid respects to Yang Guangsheng, a consul general executed by Japanese forces in 1942, and members of the Philippine-Chinese anti-Japanese guerrilla forces who fought during World War II.

Ambassador Jing emphasized the enduring significance of the memorial during the ceremony attended by 90-year-old guerrilla veteran Lv Shuiya. 'These heroes demonstrated unbreakable spirit against aggression,' Jing stated, laying wreaths at monuments honoring 260+ military operations conducted by Chinese-Filipino resistance fighters from 1942-1945.

The memorial site preserves harrowing accounts of Yang's defiance – tortured and killed after refusing to collaborate with occupying forces. Historical records show his Manila consulate team endured three months of imprisonment before execution for protecting Chinese nationals.

Ambassador Jing reaffirmed China's commitment to peacebuilding, stating: 'Remembering this history strengthens our resolve to prevent such tragedies while pursuing national rejuvenation.' The ceremony concluded with silent tributes at the memorial hall established by Philippine Chinese communities to honor wartime sacrifices.
