Guangsha Lions Dominate Shanxi in CBA Season Opener

The Guangsha Lions launched their Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) title defense in style on Friday, defeating the Shanxi Loongs 88-74 in the 2025-26 season opener. Fresh off receiving championship rings and raising their first title banner, the Hangzhou-based team showcased renewed vigor with key offseason additions.

Former NBA guard Rayjon Tucker led the Lions with 16 points, while newly re-signed Barry Brown Jr. matched his contribution. National team stars Hu Jinqiu and Zhu Junlong combined for 22 points, with Zhu emphasizing post-game: "The new format helps us prepare for international play. We'll do our best to defend our title."

Shanxi's Hamidou Diallo put up a game-high 17 points, supported by 15 points each from Jiao Hailong and new signing Jaylen Nowell. Despite the loss, the Loongs kept pace through three quarters before Guangsha's championship pedigree shone through in the final period.

The Lions now prepare for a marquee matchup against the Liaoning Flying Leopards on December 15, while Shanxi seeks redemption against Jiangsu Dragons. The 2025-26 CBA regular season will run through April 24, 2026, featuring an expanded 52-game schedule designed to align with FIBA competition standards.
