Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will visit the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan from December 12-16, 2025, in a strategic diplomatic push to enhance regional cooperation. The tour comes as China continues to expand its economic partnerships and mediation efforts in the Middle East.
Announced Thursday by China's foreign ministry spokesperson, the visit will see Wang – who also serves on the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee – meet with senior officials including UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.
Analysts suggest the trip will focus on implementing key Belt and Road Initiative projects, stabilizing energy markets, and addressing regional security challenges. The timing coincides with heightened global attention on the Gaza reconstruction process and ongoing peace talks in Yemen, where China has recently increased its diplomatic engagement.
This marks Wang's first Middle East tour since his reappointment as foreign minister in 2025, underscoring Beijing's commitment to playing a constructive role in the region's development. The visit follows China's successful mediation in the 2024 Iran-Saudi Arabia normalization agreement, which established Beijing as an emerging peace broker.
