As 2025 draws to a close, Beijing prepares to welcome the Lunar New Year with an artistic spectacle blending tradition and innovation. Renowned Chinese artist Qiu Liquan will unveil his highly anticipated 'Year of the Horse' exhibition on December 28, 2025, at the National Art Museum of China.
The collection reimagines China's zodiac heritage through a contemporary lens, merging ink wash techniques with digital comic aesthetics and traditional nianhua (New Year picture) symbolism. Qiu's dynamic equine figures appear to leap from scroll-like canvases, their flowing manes echoing both classical brushwork and modern graphic novel energy.
'This exhibition bridges our cultural past and present,' Qiu explained during final preparations. 'The horse symbolizes perseverance and advancement – qualities that resonate deeply as we approach 2026.'
Cultural analysts note the timing coincides with renewed global interest in Asian artistic traditions, while business observers highlight growing commercial collaborations between heritage artists and tech innovators. The exhibition will run through January 31, 2026, spanning both Western and Lunar New Year celebrations.
