China Urges Global Unity for Common Security at UN Meeting

Chinese envoy Fu Cong emphasized the urgent need for multilateral cooperation to address worsening global security challenges during a UN Security Council briefing on December 8, 2025. Speaking as the OSCE chair presented updates, China's permanent representative to the UN warned of escalating geopolitical tensions and 'interlocking traditional and non-traditional threats' undermining international stability.

'The international community must champion common, comprehensive, and sustainable security,' Fu stated, advocating for strengthened collaboration between the UN and regional organizations. He stressed adherence to the UN Charter's principles and rejection of Cold War-era bloc confrontations.

With specific reference to ongoing conflicts, Fu reiterated China's consistent position: 'Dialogue remains the only viable path to resolve the Ukraine crisis.' The envoy called for customized mediation efforts respecting national sovereignty, urging parties to 'build trust through consultation rather than coercion.'

Security Council members broadly acknowledged the OSCE's role in conflict prevention, though differences persist on approaches to European security architecture. Fu concluded by urging 'practical steps toward a balanced, effective framework that serves all nations equally.'
