The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government announced on Thursday that its Support Fund for Wang Fuk Court has received HK$2.8 billion ($36 million) in public donations following last month's devastating housing complex fire in Tai Po.
Established after the November 26 blaze that displaced hundreds of residents, the fund will finance reconstruction efforts and provide direct assistance to affected households. Authorities simultaneously revealed increased emergency subsidies of HK$100,000 per household – a significant boost to support families during temporary relocation.
"This overwhelming response demonstrates Hong Kong's spirit of mutual support," stated a government spokesperson, noting donations continue to be accepted through multiple channels. The fire, one of the territory's most severe residential blazes this year, destroyed multiple units in the densely populated complex.
