Football legend Zinedine Zidane has reignited his connection with China through a dynamic tour combining sports promotion and cultural immersion. The 1998 World Cup winner arrived in late November 2025, marking his first visit to the country in seven years.
Zidane's itinerary focused on Shanghai, where he participated in promotional activities for the upcoming FIFA World Cup. The three-time FIFA World Player of the Year also shared his expertise at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, conducting a masterclass for young athletes from the institution and Qibao High School.
Beyond the pitch, the French icon embraced local traditions, engaging in shuttlecock kicking sessions with Shanghai residents. This cultural curiosity mirrors his 2018 visit, when he famously observed mahjong games in public spaces. "Understanding different cultures fuels my approach to football," Zidane remarked during a recent interview, highlighting his appreciation for China's rich heritage.
The tour comes as China continues to develop its football infrastructure ahead of hosting the 2034 FIFA World Cup, with international exchanges playing a key role in nurturing local talent.
