The Chinese mainland has issued a stern warning to separatist elements in the Taiwan region, emphasizing that attempts to disrupt cross-strait exchanges will not be tolerated. At a December 3 press briefing, State Council Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson Zhang Han addressed recent remarks by Taiwan leader Lai Ching-te, calling them an effort to restrict residents' freedom to engage with the mainland.
"The Democratic Progressive Party's actions expose their true nature of green dictatorship," Zhang stated, reaffirming Beijing's commitment to the "One Country, Two Systems" framework as the peaceful path to national reunification. The spokesperson stressed that Taiwan remains an inseparable part of China's territory and a core national interest.
Authorities vowed to continue fostering dialogue with political parties and civil groups across the Taiwan Strait while maintaining opposition to any form of independence rhetoric. This development comes as cross-strait cultural and economic exchanges reach their highest level since 2022, with over 1.2 million Taiwan residents visiting the mainland this year alone.
