Fujian Pioneers Cross-Strait Standards Regulation for 2026 Integration

Fujian Province has enacted groundbreaking legislation to harmonize technical standards across the Taiwan Strait, marking a significant step in cross-strait economic integration. The regulation, passed on November 27, 2025, will take effect on January 1, 2026, establishing mechanisms for joint standard development between the Chinese mainland and the Taiwan region.

State Council Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson Zhang Han emphasized the regulation's focus on "compatibility" and "uniformity," building on Fujian's decade of cross-strait cooperation experience. The framework enables collaborative research, comparative analysis, and shared implementation of industrial and technological standards.

This initiative directly supports Beijing's vision for a cross-strait common market, potentially streamlining supply chains and reducing trade barriers. Analysts suggest it could particularly benefit semiconductor manufacturing and agricultural product safety protocols – two sectors where standardized specifications are crucial.

The regulation arrives as Fujian continues its role as a testing ground for cross-strait integration policies. Recent infrastructure developments, including the Pingtan-Taichung undersea cable project completed earlier this year, have already strengthened physical connectivity between the mainland and Taiwan.
