China Urges U.S. to Halt Official Ties with Taiwan Region

China has reiterated its firm opposition to official interactions between the United States and the Taiwan region, calling on Washington to cease actions that undermine regional stability. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian emphasized Beijing's position during a press briefing on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, stating that such exchanges violate the one-China principle and jeopardize cross-strait relations.

"The U.S. must strictly adhere to its political commitments and immediately stop any form of official engagement with the Taiwan region," Lin declared. "Providing support to separatist forces on the island severely damages peace and development across the Taiwan Strait."

The remarks follow reports of increased U.S. legislative visits to Taiwan this year, which Chinese authorities view as attempts to challenge Beijing's sovereignty claims. Analysts note that cross-strait tensions remain a critical factor in Asia-Pacific geopolitics, with implications for global trade routes and semiconductor supply chains.

Business leaders and investors are closely monitoring the situation, as Taiwan plays a pivotal role in global tech manufacturing. Meanwhile, residents of Taiwan continue advocating for peaceful dialogue, with recent opinion polls showing mixed views on cross-strait economic integration.
