Hong Kong's Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) has launched a full-scale investigation into suspected corruption linked to renovation work at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po, where a deadly fire recently occurred. Eight individuals were arrested on Friday in connection with the case.
Those detained include four staff members from the project's consulting firm – two directors and two managers overseeing the HK$300 million renovation – along with three scaffolding subcontractors and a middleman. ICAC officers executed search warrants at 13 locations, seizing financial records and operational documents critical to the probe.
The investigation focuses on potential regulatory violations and safety standard breaches during the renovation project. This development comes amid heightened public scrutiny of construction safety protocols following the fatal incident.
As of November 28, 2025, all suspects remain in custody while investigators examine evidence. The ICAC has pledged to maintain transparency throughout the process, emphasizing its commitment to rooting out corruption in public works projects.
