Chinese Foreign Ministry confirmed on Friday that Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, will visit Russia from December 1-2 for the 20th round of annual strategic security consultations. The high-level meeting with Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu comes as both countries deepen coordination on global governance and multilateral security frameworks.
"This consultation mechanism, established in 2005, has become a crucial platform for China-Russia strategic coordination," stated a ministry spokesperson. The talks are expected to address regional stability in Asia, counterterrorism cooperation, and emerging cybersecurity challenges.
Analysts note the timing aligns with recent joint infrastructure developments under the Belt and Road Initiative and Russia's Eurasian Economic Union. The meeting follows November's productive APEC economic leaders' dialogue in Osaka, where both nations emphasized multilateral trade systems.
