China, Russia Condemn Japan’s Missile Plans Near Taiwan Region

China and Russia issued strong warnings to Japan on Thursday over its controversial plan to deploy medium-range missiles near the Taiwan region, with Beijing calling it a dangerous provocation that threatens regional stability. The developments come amid heightened tensions in East Asia as Japan prepares to station surface-to-air missiles on Yonaguni Island, located just 110 kilometers east of Taiwan.

Chinese Defense Ministry spokesperson Jiang Bin emphasized that "the Taiwan question is purely an internal affair of China", rejecting any external interference. "If Japan crosses the red line on the Taiwan region and invites troubles to itself, it is destined to pay a heavy price," Jiang stated, highlighting the People's Liberation Army's readiness to counter aggression.

The spokesperson drew historical parallels, warning that Japan's military expansion "will uproot the post-WWII international order" and revive the specter of past militarism. Russia echoed these concerns, with Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova condemning the missile deployment as a threat to neighboring countries' security during a Moscow press briefing.

Analysts note the rare joint criticism from Beijing and Moscow reflects growing apprehension about Japan's security policies. The Yonaguni deployment plan has drawn particular scrutiny due to the island's strategic location near vital shipping lanes and its proximity to Taiwan.

Regional governments are closely monitoring the situation, with security experts warning that increased militarization could disrupt the delicate balance in the Taiwan Strait. The Chinese mainland has repeatedly stressed its commitment to peaceful reunification while maintaining military preparedness against external interference.
