China Condemns Japan’s Taiwan Remarks as Provocative Signal

China has strongly criticized recent comments by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi regarding the Taiwan region, calling them a dangerous provocation that undermines cross-strait stability. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated Friday that such remarks constitute improper interference in China's internal affairs and embolden separatist forces on the island.

Speaking at a regular press briefing, Mao emphasized Japan's historical responsibility, noting: "Japan once forcibly occupied Taiwan for 50 years, committing countless crimes during its colonial rule." The spokesperson highlighted that 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of both Taiwan's liberation from Japanese occupation and the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.

The statement specifically condemned attempts by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities in Taiwan to "solicit foreign support for independence ambitions." Mao urged Japan to "strictly abide by the one-China principle" and demonstrate commitment to bilateral relations through concrete actions, including retracting the controversial statements.

Analysts suggest the diplomatic exchange comes amid heightened regional tensions, with Beijing increasingly vocal about safeguarding territorial integrity. The Chinese government maintains that proper handling of Taiwan-related issues remains fundamental to stable China-Japan relations.
