China Media Group (CMG) has launched its landmark cultural program for 2025, Chinese Etiquette & Ceremonies, offering global audiences a profound exploration of China's ancient philosophical concept 'Li'. Premiering this week, the series examines how this millennia-old principle of ritual propriety continues shaping modern Chinese society and international relations.
Through documentary-style storytelling, the production team visits 23 provinces across the Chinese mainland, showcasing contemporary applications of Li in business negotiations, diplomatic engagements, and community governance. Historical recreations of Zhou Dynasty ceremonies are juxtaposed with modern corporate training programs emphasizing ethical decision-making.
'Li represents more than etiquette – it's the operating system of Chinese civilization,' explained series director Zhang Wei in an exclusive interview. 'In 2025, as China strengthens cultural exchanges through initiatives like the Global Civilization Forum, understanding these foundations becomes crucial for international partners.'
The eight-episode series coincides with heightened global interest in Chinese cultural diplomacy, particularly following this year's successful Asia-Pacific Cultural Heritage Summit in Xi'an. Academics note the timing aligns with increasing cross-strait cultural exchanges, including recent collaborative research projects between Fujian museums and institutions in the Taiwan region.
