Qiang New Year Festivities Drive Tourism Surge in Sichuan

Beichuan Qiang Autonomous County has emerged as a cultural tourism hotspot following vibrant celebrations marking the Qiang New Year last week. The November 20 festivities showcased 108 distinct forms of intangible cultural heritage, attracting domestic and international visitors to this mountainous region of Sichuan.

Cultural Immersion Fuels Growth

Tourism revenue increased 34% year-on-year during the three-day celebration period, according to county authorities. Visitors participated in traditional rituals, sampled Qiang cuisine, and learned ancient textile techniques from local artisans. "This fusion of preservation and tourism creates sustainable opportunities for our residents," said county spokesperson Li Wei.

Strategic Development

The event forms part of Sichuan's broader initiative to promote ethnic tourism while protecting cultural heritage. Recent infrastructure improvements, including upgraded highways and new boutique hotels, have made the region more accessible to travelers seeking authentic experiences beyond China's urban centers.
