China, Italy Strengthen Ties with Two-Way Opening Up Pledge

Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni reaffirmed commitments to deepen bilateral cooperation during their meeting at the 20th G20 Summit in Johannesburg on November 22. The leaders emphasized enhancing economic collaboration and cultural exchanges as both nations approach the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2025.

Premier Li highlighted China's readiness to align development strategies with Italy, proposing expanded market access through platforms like the China International Import Expo. He urged fair treatment for Chinese enterprises in Italy while pledging support for Italian businesses in sectors ranging from advanced manufacturing to green energy.

Meloni acknowledged steady progress in Italy-China relations, emphasizing plans to accelerate implementation of joint economic initiatives. Both leaders agreed to strengthen coordination within multilateral frameworks including the UN and G20, reaffirming support for open markets and multilateral governance systems.

The discussions concluded with agreements to boost tourism, educational exchanges, and sub-national partnerships, building on 2025's projected growth in cross-border travel between the two countries.
