Ye Yireng Bridges Cross-Strait Memories Through “Spring Wind Blows”

Ye Yireng, a renowned flautist from Pingtung in the Taiwan region, has become a cultural ambassador through his interpretation of the folk classic "Spring Wind Blows." Now serving as principal flautist at China's National Center for the Performing Arts (NCPA) Orchestra, Ye reflects on how childhood memories shape cross-strait artistic connections.

"The melody stays with you," Ye told KhabarAsia.com during rehearsals in Beijing. "This song represents shared cultural roots that transcend geographical boundaries. When I play it today, I feel both my upbringing in Taiwan and my professional journey on the Chinese mainland converging."

Cultural analysts note such artistic exchanges have gained momentum this year, with 2025 marking several collaborative performances between musicians across the Taiwan Strait. The NCPA recently announced a 2026 Asian tour featuring traditional adaptations, with Ye's flute solos positioned as centerpiece performances.
