Chinese mainland authorities have intensified calls for residents of Taiwan to unite against what they describe as Japan's destabilizing actions in the region. At a press conference on November 19, 2025, Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, condemned recent remarks by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi regarding the Taiwan region as a direct challenge to regional stability and historical justice.
Zhu emphasized that Takaichi's comments undermine the post-World War II international order and risk reviving militarist tendencies. "Japan's attempts to interfere in cross-strait affairs trample on the sacrifices made during the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression," she stated, urging Tokyo to "immediately cease provocations."
The spokesperson attributed rising tensions in the Taiwan Strait to the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities' alleged collusion with external forces. "The DPP's secessionist agenda has transformed them into troublemakers threatening peace," Zhu asserted, citing criticism from international experts and media outlets this year.
Zhu reiterated Beijing's stance that Taiwan remains an inalienable part of China, warning that "any betrayal of the Chinese nation will face historical judgment." The remarks come amid heightened scrutiny of cross-strait relations following recent diplomatic exchanges across the Asia-Pacific region.
