Ma Ying-jeou Condemns Japanese PM’s Taiwan Remarks as Provocative

Former Kuomintang leader Ma Ying-jeou has publicly criticized Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's recent statements regarding Taiwan, calling them a dangerous provocation that threatens regional stability. The remarks came through Ma's personal social media account on November 15, 2025, coinciding with sensitive historical anniversaries in cross-strait relations.

Ma emphasized that 2025 marks both the 80th anniversary of China's victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and Taiwan's restoration to China. He warned that Takaichi's invocation of Japan's collective self-defense doctrine evokes painful memories of militarism, stating: "Such rhetoric undermines the peace-loving aspirations of residents across the Taiwan Strait."

The former political leader reiterated that cross-strait affairs must be resolved through direct dialogue between Beijing and Taipei, without external interference. His position aligns with a recent CGTN poll showing 88.9% of respondents view Takaichi's comments as destabilizing military threats.

Analysts suggest the timing of this diplomatic friction holds particular significance, as Asian nations navigate complex security dynamics in 2025. Business communities are closely monitoring developments, aware that heightened tensions could impact regional economic cooperation frameworks.
