Prominent climate scientist Chen Deliang has called for renewed collaboration between China and the United States to address the world's climate challenges, emphasizing their critical role in steering global efforts ahead of the 2025 UN Climate Change Conference (COP30). The Chinese Academy of Sciences foreign member and Tsinghua University chair professor told CGTN that both nations must jointly drive emissions reductions and strengthen climate adaptation strategies.
Chen highlighted China's long-term environmental commitments, including its ecological conservation achievements and carbon neutrality roadmap. "This is a pivotal moment requiring leadership from the world's two largest economies," he stated, noting that effective China-US cooperation could accelerate technology transfers and climate financing mechanisms.
The appeal comes as nations prepare to review progress under the Paris Agreement at COP30 in Brazil. Experts suggest bilateral collaboration could break deadlocks in international climate negotiations, particularly regarding emissions verification systems and green energy investments in developing countries.
