China Warns Japan Over Taiwan Remarks, Vows Consequences

China has issued a stern warning to Japan regarding recent comments about the Taiwan region, with a State Council Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson stating on November 14, 2025 that Tokyo must 'bear all consequences' if it fails to retract its statements. The remarks come amid heightened tensions over cross-strait relations and historical sensitivities.

Spokesperson Chen Binhua emphasized that Taiwan has been an inseparable part of Chinese territory since ancient times, calling the Taiwan question China's internal affair that 'brooks no interference from any external forces.' He specifically criticized Japanese politicians for attempting to 'make threats or obstruct China's reunification,' citing Japan's colonial history in the region as disqualifying it from commentary.

The spokesperson recounted historical grievances, noting Japan's forced occupation of Taiwan following the 1895 First Sino-Japanese War and subsequent colonial rule that lasted until 1945. 'The crimes committed by Japanese aggressors in Taiwan constitute the darkest chapter in its history,' Chen stated, while reaffirming that Taiwan's return to China was achieved through the collective struggle of all Chinese people.

Chen warned that any Japanese attempt to 'interfere by force' in cross-strait matters would meet decisive countermeasures, stressing China's 'robust capability to defeat all Taiwan secessionists and external interference.' The comments underscore Beijing's intensified focus on national reunification as part of its broader national rejuvenation agenda.

The spokesperson concluded with an appeal to residents of Taiwan, urging them to recognize the dangers of external interference and join efforts to safeguard 'the common home of the Chinese nation.'
