China-Spain Disability Cooperation Highlighted in Beijing Visit

Peng Liyuan, spouse of Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Spain's Queen Letizia visited the Beijing Demonstration Center of Service for Persons with Disabilities on Wednesday, underscoring cross-cultural collaboration in advancing social inclusion. The visit coincided with King Felipe VI's state visit to China, marking a significant moment in bilateral relations.

During their tour, the dignitaries explored innovative disability support projects, including assistive technologies and rehabilitation programs. They observed a showcase of high-tech aids and engaged with residents participating in vocational training, such as baking and handicraft workshops. Children undergoing rehabilitation training performed the Chinese song Songs and Smiles, creating an emotional highlight of the visit.

Peng emphasized the importance of global cooperation, stating: "Joint efforts are essential to help persons with disabilities integrate into society and realize their aspirations." Queen Letizia praised China's progress in disability employment, particularly for women, and expressed interest in strengthening Spain-China partnerships in this field.

The visit concluded with a review of Beijing's Paralympic Winter Games legacy and barrier-free infrastructure developments, including accessible facilities showcased in Wangfujing's shopping district last December.
