China has unveiled plans to strengthen policy support for its service sector as a cornerstone of its 15th Five-Year Plan (2026–2030), signaling a strategic shift toward sustainable economic modernization. The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) hosted a critical symposium with private enterprises this week to gather insights for shaping the sector's development framework.
NDRC head Zheng Shanjie emphasized the service industry's role as both an economic pillar and a barometer of national progress. "Enhancing service quality and capacity isn't just about economic metrics – it's fundamental to achieving our modernization vision," Zheng stated during Tuesday's discussions.
