Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide concluded high-level talks in Beijing this week, pledging to deepen cooperation on green energy development and multilateral trade frameworks. The November 11 meeting marked a significant step in bilateral relations as both nations seek to align climate action with economic growth.
Wang Yi, representing the Chinese mainland, emphasized Norway's role as "an important and stable European partner" during Tuesday's discussions. He called for strengthened implementation of leadership agreements between both countries while opposing economic decoupling practices. "We must pursue openness and win-win cooperation to build a more equitable international system," Wang stated.
Eide reaffirmed Norway's commitment to the one-China policy while highlighting concrete collaboration opportunities. "As Europe's green transition leader, we maintain zero tariffs for Chinese electric vehicles and welcome expanded partnerships," the Norwegian diplomat said. He praised China's Global Governance Initiative as complementary to Oslo's vision for rules-based multilateralism.
The ministers agreed to enhance strategic coordination across four key areas:
- Accelerating joint renewable energy projects
- Expanding maritime resource management cooperation
- Boosting cross-border innovation ecosystems
- Streamlining business operations through stable policies
On Middle East stability, both parties urged immediate implementation of ceasefire agreements and increased international support for Palestinian governance capacity building. The dialogue concluded with plans for technical working groups to advance practical cooperation before 2026.
