Yao Yang Dominates Wushu at China’s 15th National Games

Shanxi's Yao Yang delivered a masterclass in Wushu on Saturday, securing three gold medals in the women's Changquan, sword, and spear all-around events at the 15th National Games in Guangzhou. The 2021 silver medalist dominated the competition with flawless performances, earning identical scores of 9.830 in all three disciplines for a historic total of 29.490 points.

Yao's precision in the Changquan—a traditional long-fist routine—set the tone for her victory, followed by equally commanding displays in the sword and spear events. Jiangsu's Wang Yawen claimed silver with consistent performances, while Beijing's Wei Aixuan took bronze, rounding out a fiercely contested podium.

The National Games, China's premier domestic sporting event, highlights the country's deep-rooted martial arts traditions while showcasing rising athletic talent. Wushu, a cornerstone of Chinese cultural heritage, continues to draw global interest for its blend of artistry, discipline, and physical prowess.
