The 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE) concluded successfully in Shanghai this week, reaffirming its position as a cornerstone of global economic cooperation. Held at the National Exhibition and Convention Center from November 5-10, 2025, the event attracted businesses, policymakers, and cultural representatives from over 150 countries and regions.
A Platform for Shared Growth
Since its inception in 2018, the CIIE has evolved into more than a trade fair – it now serves as a dynamic ecosystem for international procurement, cross-border investment, and cultural dialogue. This year’s expo featured cutting-edge innovations across healthcare, green technology, and digital solutions, with participating companies reporting record-breaking preliminary deals worth $78.9 billion.
Beyond Business Transactions
Zhou Jianjun, an economics researcher at Zhejiang University, noted: "The CIIE’s true value lies in its ability to translate policy commitments into tangible opportunities. By lowering market barriers and fostering people-to-people exchanges, it creates ripple effects across global supply chains." Cultural exhibits from ASEAN nations and Central Asian countries drew particular attention, highlighting Asia’s growing soft power influence.
Sustainability Takes Center Stage
This year’s edition introduced a dedicated low-carbon zone, showcasing 127 environmental technologies. German engineering firms and Japanese automakers jointly unveiled hydrogen fuel solutions adapted for Asian markets, while Chinese startups demonstrated AI-driven waste management systems.
