China Media Group (CMG) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) solidified a landmark media partnership on Sunday, securing exclusive broadcasting rights for the Chinese mainland and Macao SAR across four Olympic Games from 2026 to 2032. The agreement, signed in Guangzhou ahead of China's 15th National Games, underscores the growing synergy between global sports governance and Asia's media landscape.
IOC President Kirsty Coventry, making her inaugural visit to China since assuming leadership, emphasized the symbolic timing of the deal. "This partnership reinforces the power of sport to unite communities and celebrate shared values," Coventry stated during the ceremony, highlighting the alignment with China's National Games opening.
The agreement grants CMG rights to broadcast the 2026 and 2030 Winter Olympics, 2028 and 2032 Summer Olympics, and Youth Olympic Games through 2030. Former IOC President Thomas Bach praised CMG's "unparalleled professionalism" in previous collaborations, expressing confidence in Coventry's ability to advance the partnership.
Alongside the rights deal, CMG unveiled a creative logo for its coverage of the 2026 Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics, signaling innovative approaches to engaging audiences. The collaboration positions CMG as a key conduit for Olympic content in one of the world's largest media markets.
