Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Transforms into National Games Hub Ahead of 15th Edition

Hong Kong's historic Kai Tak site – once a bustling airport – has reinvented itself as a technological marvel ahead of the 15th National Games of China. The newly unveiled Kai Tak Sports Park features a retractable roof, BIM digital construction systems, and design elements honoring its aviation heritage, symbolizing the city's evolving role in the Greater Bay Area integration.

"This project demonstrates how global collaboration and smart engineering can breathe new life into urban spaces," said a project spokesperson, highlighting contributions from 14 countries. The venue's跑道-shaped roof structure pays homage to its history while meeting modern sporting standards.

With capacity for 50,000 spectators, the complex will host major events during the National Games starting November 8. The development coincides with a documentary chronicling its transformation, Game On, Kai Tak!, which showcases Hong Kong athletes preparing for the competition.

Analysts note the HK$30 billion project strengthens cross-regional cooperation, with 40% of construction materials sourced from the Chinese mainland. As night falls, the venue's LED-lit roof creates a beacon visible across Victoria Harbour – a physical manifestation of Hong Kong's sporting ambitions and urban renewal strategies.
