CIIE 2023 Highlights China’s Push for Global Market Access

The 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE), underway in Shanghai until November 10, has set new records in scale and global participation, underscoring China's commitment to fostering international trade partnerships and market accessibility. With 4,108 overseas exhibitors from 155 countries and regions across 430,000 square meters of exhibition space, the event serves as a critical bridge for businesses seeking entry into the world's second-largest economy.

Expanding Opportunities for All Economies

Sergei Vergeichik of the Belarusian Institute for Strategic Research noted the expo's role in promoting 'coordinated regional growth worldwide,' particularly for smaller economies. Belarus is showcasing eco-friendly products and industrial machinery, leveraging the platform to strengthen trade ties. Similarly, Bosnian economist Igor Gavran emphasized how the CIIE offers 'tremendous opportunities' for businesses in smaller economies like Bosnia and Herzegovina, where partnerships forged at the event can transform local industries.

A Gateway to Efficient Collaboration

Italian Deputy Mayor Jacopo Vicini highlighted the expo's efficiency, stating Florence-based companies have secured Chinese market connections 'equivalent to months of trade missions' in a single day. The event has also facilitated collaborations in technology, culture, and tourism for participating cities.

Global Endorsement of Open Markets

Economic expert Alexis Bih from Cote d’Ivoire observed that global enterprises increasingly view the CIIE as a strategic opportunity to deepen engagement with China's 1.4 billion consumers. With its focus on high-level openness, the expo continues to demonstrate China's role as a catalyst for shared economic growth, aligning with its dual circulation development strategy.
