China’s advanced Fujian aircraft carrier, the nation’s first equipped with electromagnetic catapults, will conduct regular operations on the high seas, according to a Chinese navy spokesperson. Senior Captain Leng Guowei emphasized that while the Sanya military port in Hainan serves as its home base, the vessel’s 'true home' lies in the vast ocean.
Commissioned on Wednesday, the Fujian is China’s largest warship and the third carrier in active service. Independently designed and built, the carrier represents a leap in naval technology. Named after Fujian Province, it was launched in 2022 and is now undergoing final preparations to integrate advanced aircraft such as the J-35 stealth fighter and KongJing-600 early warning plane.
Leng noted that the Fujian’s development included steady progress on cutting-edge systems, with full operational readiness expected soon. However, he stressed that China’s military advancements are defensive in nature, aimed at safeguarding sovereignty and security without targeting other nations. 'These initiatives do not pose threats to any country or region,' he stated.
The Fujian’s deployment marks a milestone in China’s naval modernization, blending innovation with strategic priorities. Future carrier plans will align with national defense needs, reflecting a focus on balancing technological prowess with regional stability.
