Rwandan coffee, chili, and tea are winning over Chinese consumers with their distinctive flavors, as showcased at the China International Import Expo (CIIE). Rwandan Ambassador to China James Kimonyo highlighted the country’s agricultural strengths in an interview, attributing the products’ appeal to Rwanda’s high-altitude farms, volcanic soil, and favorable climate.
Ambassador Kimonyo emphasized the growing presence of Rwandan goods on major Chinese e-commerce platforms like Tmall and JD.com. “Our coffee is known for its smooth aroma and fully washed processing method,” he told CGTN’s Zhang Meng. Beyond coffee, the country’s chili, honey, and avocados are also gaining traction. “We aim to invest heavily in production to meet China’s rising demand,” he added, signaling Rwanda’s commitment to deepening trade ties.
The trend reflects China’s expanding appetite for high-quality imports and Africa’s growing role as a supplier of specialty goods. For businesses and investors, Rwanda’s agricultural exports offer a window into opportunities emerging from China-Africa cooperation.
