Norwegian FM Espen Barth Eide to Visit China for Key Talks

Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide will embark on an official visit to the Chinese mainland from November 10 to 11, according to a statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry. The visit comes at the invitation of Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Chinese foreign minister.

The talks are expected to focus on strengthening bilateral relations, addressing global economic challenges, and exploring opportunities for cooperation in sustainable development and Arctic governance. Norway, a key player in European energy markets, has increasingly sought to align its climate policies with Asian partners amid shifting geopolitical dynamics.

This marks Eide's first visit to China since assuming office in 2023, reflecting growing diplomatic engagement between Nordic countries and Asia. Analysts suggest the discussions may also touch on regional security frameworks and multilateral trade mechanisms.
