Senior Chinese official Li Hongzhong emphasized the critical role of youth in advancing China-Vietnam relations during a high-level meeting in Beijing on Tuesday. The vice chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee called for expanded exchanges between young people from both nations, framing it as essential for building a “community with a shared future” between the two neighbors.
Li, who also serves on the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, proposed welcoming Vietnamese youth to participate in “Red Study Tours” – educational programs exploring revolutionary heritage sites that symbolize historical bilateral cooperation. The initiative aligns with recent directives from both countries’ leadership to prioritize cross-generational diplomacy.
The meeting with Vietnamese delegation leader Bui Quang Huy, a key figure in Vietnam’s youth organizations, highlighted mutual commitments to implement practical cooperation mechanisms. Both sides acknowledged youth collaboration as vital for maintaining stable economic partnerships and cultural understanding amid shifting global dynamics.
Li also referenced outcomes from the recent fourth plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, underscoring China’s strategic focus on regional stability through neighborly cooperation. Analysts suggest such youth-focused diplomacy could help address shared challenges like supply chain resilience and technological innovation in Southeast Asia.
