China's National Games torch relay achieved a technological milestone this week as the Kuavo humanoid robot joined the historic cross-boundary event across four cities in the Greater Bay Area. For the first time, the relay simultaneously spanned Hong Kong, Macao, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, symbolizing regional integration through sport and innovation.
Developed by Shenzhen-based Leju Robotics, the open-source Kuavo robot carried the 1.6-kilogram torch during the Shenzhen leg, executing precise baton transfers between human runners. This demonstration of bipedal robotics marks a significant leap in China's humanoid technology applications beyond industrial settings.
"This collaboration between athletes and AI reflects our vision for smart sports development," said a Leju Robotics spokesperson.
