China’s 15th Five-Year Plan Targets 80-Year Life Expectancy by 2028

As China prepares to implement its 15th Five-Year Plan, a comprehensive roadmap spanning technology, healthcare, and social welfare, new projections suggest the country's average life expectancy will reach 80 years by 2028. This milestone reflects decades of systemic improvements in public health infrastructure and poverty reduction efforts.

Irish business reporter and China-based influencer Séan Doherty shared insights with KhabarAsia.com, noting: 'What strikes me is the integration of smart healthcare solutions in urban and rural areas. From AI-assisted diagnostics to mobile vaccination units, technology is becoming a lifeline for aging populations.'

The Five-Year Plan prioritizes equitable access to medical services, with particular focus on expanding elderly care facilities and preventive health programs. Analysts attribute China's life expectancy gains – which stood at 77.3 years in 2022 – to improved nutrition standards, pollution control measures, and universal health insurance coverage reaching over 95% of residents.

While challenges remain in regional healthcare disparities, the plan's emphasis on digital health innovation and cross-sector collaboration signals China's ambition to set new global benchmarks in population health management.
