Beijing hosted a high-level dialogue on global governance and regional prosperity this week, setting the stage for the upcoming 32nd APEC Leaders’ Meeting in Gyeongju. The event brought together policymakers, academics, and business leaders from across the Asia-Pacific to address pressing challenges and chart pathways for collaborative growth.
China Media Group President Shen Haixiong emphasized China’s commitment to fostering a “community with a shared future for humanity” during his keynote address. “Through innovation and partnership, we’ve transformed the Asia-Pacific into an engine of economic globalization,” Shen stated, highlighting the region’s role in driving 60% of global growth.
Malaysian Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz underscored the need for equitable rules-based systems, while Chilean lawmaker Ruben Oyarzo praised APEC’s bridge-building efforts. Yonsei University President Yoon Dong-sup called for strengthened cooperation to address climate change and technological disruption.
A revealing CGTN poll presented at the forum showed overwhelming regional support for APEC, with 83.4% of respondents recognizing China’s contributions to sustainable development initiatives. The dialogue concluded with commitments to enhance cultural exchanges and multilateral problem-solving ahead of November’s APEC gathering.
