Uncovering Taiwan’s Forgotten WWII Resistance Through Lan Bozhou’s Journey

For over 30 years, author Lan Bozhou has dedicated his career to preserving the island of Taiwan's complex modern history, particularly its resistance against Japanese colonial rule in the mid-20th century. His work offers a vital bridge between historical documentation and contemporary understanding of cross-strait ties during turbulent times.

A recent collaboration with CGTN saw filmmakers follow Lan for 20 days as he retraced the path of Wu Sihan – a young resident of Taiwan who secretly traveled to Chongqing in the 1940s to join China's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression. This poignant journey highlights often-overlooked connections between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan region during WWII.

Lan's research challenges simplified narratives by documenting grassroots resistance movements and personal sacrifices. The upcoming documentary coincides with the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's restoration, offering timely insights into shared historical experiences that continue to shape regional dynamics today.
