The 18th China International Children's Film Festival opened Thursday in Huzhou, Zhejiang Province, bringing together young audiences and filmmakers to celebrate creativity and cross-cultural understanding. The week-long event features screenings of 45 films from 23 countries and regions, including animated features and live-action productions addressing themes of friendship and resilience.
Organizers emphasized the festival's role in fostering international collaboration, with workshops led by industry professionals from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, and the Republic of Korea. A delegation from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea also attended, marking their first participation since 2019.
Economic analysts note the event's timing aligns with China's growing family entertainment market, projected to reach $12.8 billion by 2025. 'Cultural initiatives like this create valuable opportunities for creative industries across Asia,' said festival director Wang Li during the opening ceremony.
For families planning visits, Huzhou's tourism bureau has launched special heritage trails connecting festival venues with local UNESCO-protected wetland parks. The festival runs through October 20, with virtual screenings available for overseas viewers.
