Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao met Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury in Beijing this week, signaling strengthened economic cooperation as the European aerospace giant expands its footprint in the world's second-largest aviation market. The talks coincided with Airbus inaugurating its second A320 aircraft assembly line in Tianjin – a strategic move underscoring China's growing role in global aviation manufacturing.
Minister Wang highlighted China's sustained market expansion, noting the country now ranks as the world's second-largest consumer and import market. "China's commitment to advancing modernization and developing new quality productive forces will create immense opportunities for international partners," Wang stated, positioning Airbus' investments as mutually beneficial.
The new Tianjin facility – only the second A320 assembly line in Asia – marks a milestone in technology transfer and industrial collaboration. Wang urged Airbus to leverage this expansion to "deliver higher-quality aviation products and services" while addressing global supply chain challenges through continued dialogue.
Faury reaffirmed Airbus' confidence in China's economic trajectory, pledging to deepen market engagement and contribute to China-EU trade relations. The meeting comes as Beijing intensifies efforts to stabilize foreign investor confidence through roundtable discussions addressing operational concerns.
