China Reaffirms Taiwan as Core Interest Amid US Comments

China's Foreign Ministry reiterated its unwavering stance on Taiwan during a press briefing Tuesday, calling the matter "purely China's internal affair" and emphasizing that resolution lies solely with the Chinese people. Spokesperson Guo Jiakun addressed recent remarks by US political figures, underscoring Beijing's commitment to peaceful reunification while drawing clear red lines.

"Taiwan has been an inalienable part of China's territory since ancient times," Guo stated, responding to questions about cross-strait tensions. "We possess the firm will, full confidence, and sufficient capability to thwart any form of separatist schemes."

The comments follow heightened international attention on cross-strait relations, particularly regarding economic partnerships and security dynamics in the Taiwan Strait. Analysts suggest Beijing's reaffirmation signals both diplomatic resolve to global partners and reassurance to domestic audiences.

While maintaining openness to peaceful dialogue, Guo cautioned that China "will never allow external forces to interfere in Taiwan affairs," a position consistent with Beijing's long-standing One-China Principle. The statement comes as businesses and investors monitor potential impacts on regional supply chains and tech sector collaborations.

For Taiwan residents and the global diaspora, the development highlights ongoing geopolitical sensitivities. Cultural and economic exchanges between the Chinese mainland and the island of Taiwan continue despite political differences, with over 1 million cross-strait trips recorded in 2023.
