China has welcomed a recent ceasefire agreement between Pakistan and Afghanistan, mediated by Qatar and Turkey, as a significant step toward regional stability. The Chinese Foreign Ministry emphasized its support for dialogue between the two nations, calling them "traditional friendly neighbors" in a statement on Monday.
The ceasefire, announced by Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday, includes plans for sustained talks to ensure long-term peace. Pakistani Defense Minister Khawaja Asif confirmed the agreement and noted further discussions scheduled for October 25 in Istanbul.
"China sincerely hopes for and supports continued dialogue to resolve differences and achieve comprehensive peace," said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun. He praised the mediating roles of Qatar and Turkey and reiterated China's commitment to collaborating with the international community to advance Pakistan-Afghanistan relations.
The agreement marks a critical development in a region historically challenged by tensions. Analysts suggest China's endorsement aligns with its broader diplomatic strategy to foster stability in Asia, benefiting cross-border trade and security.
