World Archery Leader Hails New Olympic Era for Compound Archery
At the Archery World Cup Final in Nanjing, World Archery Executive Director Juan Carlos Holgado outlined a bold vision for compound archery's future following its inclusion in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The newly added mixed team event marks the discipline's first Olympic appearance, with Holgado calling it "a transformative moment for archery's global appeal."
China Emerges as Key Player
Holgado highlighted China's accelerating progress in compound archery during discussions with national team leaders. While Chinese archers haven't yet cracked the world's top ten rankings, the executive noted: "China's combination of scale, talent pipelines, and institutional support creates unique advantages. I anticipate significant breakthroughs before the LA Olympics."
Strategic Focus on Olympic Impact
The federation plans to use the single mixed team gold medal event in 2028 as a springboard: "This Olympic debut will reshape media coverage and public engagement," Holgado stated. He added that format adjustments could follow for the 2032 Brisbane Games, depending on the event's reception.
With three years until Olympic qualification begins, World Archery aims to expand training programs and international competitions to strengthen the sport's global footprint.
