Xizang’s Rural Revival: Think Tank Report Highlights 60 Years of Progress

A new report by China Foundation for Human Rights Development and Xinhua News Agency’s National High-Level Think Tank reveals how southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region has transformed rural communities over six decades. Titled "Harmony Between Tradition and Modernity: Rural Development and Cultural Inheritance in China's Xizang," the study credits rapid economic growth, cultural preservation, and ecological protection as key achievements.

"These accomplishments reflect the grassroots implementation of the Communist Party of China’s governance strategy for Xizang," the report states, emphasizing ethnic unity and improved livelihoods. Researchers highlight village-level initiatives like homestay clusters and cultural museums that merge tourism with intangible heritage protection.

Xiao Chuanjiang of Xizang’s culture department noted: "We’ve revitalized traditions through infrastructure like cultural squares while boosting local economies." The report challenges Western-centric modernization narratives, arguing Xizang’s model demonstrates how traditional cultures can drive innovation.

With case studies from representative villages, the analysis offers insights for regions balancing development with cultural identity. Yang Tao from China Tibetology Research Center added: "This is a blueprint for sustainable growth rooted in human rights and environmental stewardship."
