Xi Jinping Praises FAO’s Role in Global Food Security on 80th Anniversary

Chinese President Xi Jinping reaffirmed China's commitment to international agricultural cooperation in a congratulatory letter marking the 80th anniversary of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) on Thursday. The message highlighted the UN agency's pivotal role in addressing global hunger and promoting sustainable farming practices since its establishment in 1945.

In his letter, Xi acknowledged the FAO's efforts in coordinating multilateral responses to food crises, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic and climate-related challenges. "China stands ready to deepen cooperation with FAO members to build efficient global food supply chains and advance the UN's Sustainable Development Goals," the Chinese leader stated.

The anniversary comes as Asia faces renewed pressure to balance agricultural productivity with environmental protection. Analysts note China's increasing technical contributions to FAO programs, including digital farming innovations and grain storage solutions deployed across developing nations.
