China, France Strengthen Strategic Ties in 27th Dialogue

Senior diplomats from China and France convened in Hangzhou this week for their annual strategic dialogue, reaffirming commitments to deepen cooperation amid global uncertainties. The 27th China-France Strategic Dialogue saw Wang Yi, China's top foreign policy official, and Emmanuel Bonne, diplomatic adviser to the French president, charting a course for enhanced bilateral collaboration.

Wang emphasized the 'strategic stability' of China-France relations, highlighting progress in trade, technology, and multilateral coordination over the past year. 'As permanent UN Security Council members, our countries bear special responsibility to uphold international order,' stated Wang, underscoring plans to expand cooperation in emerging sectors like renewable energy and advanced manufacturing.

Bonne reaffirmed France's commitment to the one-China policy while advocating for 'equal and mutually beneficial' economic partnerships. The French delegation specifically proposed collaboration in civil nuclear energy, artificial intelligence, and green technology development.

The dialogue addressed critical global challenges, with both parties agreeing to enhance coordination on Ukraine crisis mediation, Middle East stability efforts, and UN reform initiatives. Wang called for Europe to maintain 'strategic autonomy' in its China relations, a position Bonne acknowledged as France prepares to help shape EU-China policy.

Analysts observe the meeting signals potential breakthroughs in EU-China trade negotiations, particularly in electric vehicle and solar technology sectors. The talks concluded with plans for increased provincial-level exchanges and joint research programs between French and Chinese academic institutions.
